The 2023 model continues the ninth Malibu generation and is a compact four-door sedan that is stylish, fun to drive and loaded with great features. There are four core trim levels available: LS, RS, LT and 2LT. The LS is the most affordable option but well equipped with many amenities and technologies. The RS is perhaps the most popular trim as it doesn’t cost much more than the base but has a sportier appearance and more creature comforts. The LT makes the Malibu cabin even more upscale, and the top-spec 2LT takes the luxury quotient up a notch with features like genuine leather seating and cooled front seats.
The biggest update to the Malibu is the streamlining of the trim selection. Those familiar with the recent past models will notice that the Premier trim is no longer available and that the 2LT takes its place as the top trim level. Chevrolet has also opted to no longer offer multiple powertrains. Regardless of trim level, all Malibu models are powered by a fuel-efficient turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine: 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. All models are front-wheel drive, and a continuously variable transmission distributes the power to those front wheels.
Another change is that Chevrolet has added most driver-assistance technologies to the base trim, and they’ve done it without a significant increase in price, which makes it an even more compelling option. Standard features include an 8-inch infotainment touch screen, in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, Android and Apple device integration, automatic headlamps, automatic high-beam assist, a rearview camera system, frontal collision alert with automatic braking and lane departure alert with mitigation.
